The design brief was discussed with the team and a series of image assets was received to base the colour scheme on.
An additional complication and pressure on this commission was that the vinyl would be printed and then shipped to Chile where the car would be waiting pre-event for application in the Atacama Desert. This meant that the margin for error would be zero with no time to re-print.
To maximise accuracy, the design was to be created in our 3D environment. Each panel was airbrushed electronically to create the requested look and feel.
During the design process, multiple versions and studio visuals were created for comments and to gain final approval from the team, management, sponsor and LH.
Once we had sign-off on the final design, each area of the car was exported with markers so that once printed the vinyl could be applied individually with confidence that each one would line up accurately over the panel gaps.
The printed vinyl arrived in Chile just a day or so before the event started, applied to the car in the Atacama desert and the resulting fit and appearance was perfect and just as designed.
Just to finish this story off on an even higher high, drivers Cristina Gutiérrez and Sébastien Loeb won the Copper X Prix in Chile, the teams first win in 2022, setting up a final race showdown with their competitors.
It must have been a lucky livery.
