In previous years, we have gone for groundbreaking and entirely different designs such as the 2017 ‘stealth’ inspired McLaren livery and the disruptive pattern designs on the 2016 Ginetta GT3 and 2015 Ginetta GT4 cars. Having looked up and down the grid we wanted something that was striking, used the Tolman Motorsport team colours and had a design that made this team stand out.
With the team now running and developing the McLaren GT4 cars for the official McLaren Driver Development Programme we opted for a design that enhanced the style and form of the McLaren 570S GT4.
The lines of the car have been accentuated by running of the red and white stripes up the predominantly gunmetal grey side of the car and up and over the rear bodywork style to enhance the lines of this beautiful GT car. The additional colour at the back and the shape of the stripes also gives the look of an animal ready to pounce with its power at the rear.
The striping and colouring at the front with the bonnet fasteners breaking through again makes the car more aggressive from the front and the contrast between the red/white and the gunmetal grey creates a look that stands out in imagery and television.
Different colour elements were added to the dive-planes on each of the three colour to aid recognition for the team when signalling with the pit board on the main straight.
As is our usual practice, the designs were developed in 3D in our virtual studio to ensure that the look and feel were right and added the ability to try different styles until a final concept was agreed on with the team. In addition, layout files were produced from these that highlighted locations on the car for sponsor/branding positioning.
All three cars can be seen in action in this years championship with the team looking to build on its 2nd place in the Pro/Am championship in 2017. With three cars, the Tolman Motorsport team should be a good bet for the overall GT4 Teams Championship.
